Serendipity

Sometimes when we are dyeing, things don't end up exactly the way we planned. We like to call these happy accidents. We end up with beautiful stuff but its either a bit off from the way a colorway is "supposed" to look or isn't repeatable. Other times we accidentally wind up a skein that is only 60 or 80grams, instead of 100g. We have decided to make these skeins available to you on the website. But be quick, the yarn listed on this page is only available in limited quantities (sometimes only one skein!). This sock was knit out of a skein of Serendipity yarn that I grabbed for myself (I couldn't resist). :)

New Design Using Sashimi!

I am pleased to introduce The Quatrefoil Shrug by Janine Le Cras. The Quatrefoil shrug is an easy to wear, raglan style shrug knit from the top down. An easy to remember lace pattern shows up brilliantly when knit with the smoothly spun Sashimi. We will be selling this pattern on the website for $5. I can't wait to cast on for one for myself!

Computer Troubles

I mentioned a while back that my computer crashed. My hard drive completely died on me. The computer people were able to recover some things, and I had a little bit backed up, but I completely lost all of my old emails. So, if you have sent me an email and a) I have not responded or b) I responded with something like "got your email, I'll send you more information later" or c) feel like maybe I was saving your email for some reason and would like to have it back PLEASE resend your emails. I know I am going to accidentally ignore some people because they emailed me right before the crash and I never responded, and now I don't have the emails.

These computer troubles have also made me completely disorganized (which is weird for me). I am finally getting caught up on orders, so if you placed an order before Jan 4th it should be going out in the mail today (wed) or tomorrow. That means it should arrive in the next week (longer if you live outside of the US or have really mean mail people). If you ordered something from me and it has not arrived by the end of next week please contact me. I don't think I have lost any orders, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Thanks for all your patience and understanding. I promise I will backup better next time (I just bought an external hard drive, so now I'm set).

A New Recruit

A friend of mine recently finished her very first non-scarf knitting project and she used Unique Sheep yarn to do it! It turned out perfect (really, I'm amazed that this came off the needles of a beginner) and I just had to brag on her a bit.

Elizabeth used one skein of Back to Basics in Morning Glory for this hat, on size 8 needles. The pattern she used is free online. Now shes working on a pair of socks out of Super Wool in a color I created just for her (hopefully I'll post more about this later in the week). Last night I showed her how to turn the heel and do the gusset, so shes almost done with the first one!

Little Sampler Socks

In my last post I talked about Cat Bordhi's new sock book which has gotten me all excited about knitting socks. I was so pleased with the Coriolis socks I made for myself that I gathered together some left over bits of yarn to try out some of the baby/ "learner" sock patterns. In the process I got to try out different cast ons, bind offs, heels and toes and different combinations of yarns and colors. For each of the three socks I used two strands of Unique Sheep yarns on size 5 needles.

For the "Little Sky Sock" I used two strands of Verve in Sinful and Brook Side. (left)

For Marcelo's Seven League Boots (foxglove sockitecture) I also used Brook Side also, but this time paired with a solid ecru and in the Sushi Socks yarn. Sushi Socks is so fluffy and soft, its perfect for baby socks! (right)

Finally, for Etta Mae's Baby Bootikins (Upsteam sockitecture) I used one strand of Verve in Spiced Apple and one strand of Leili in solid dark purple.

I am very pleased with how these color and yarn combinations worked out and am looking forward to trying more, and to making myself another (adult sized) pair of socks from this book!

Leili Socks

I just got a copy of Cat Bordhi's new book, "New Pathways for Sock Knitters" and have already knit a pair of socks from it. I did the Tibetan Socks using the Coriolis "sockitecture". It calls for a gauge of 6sts per inch on size 5 needles, so I held two strands of Leili together. I used one nearly solid in a very dark purple and one strand of Beach Sunrise. I'm very please with how it turned out, what do you think? I can't seem to make myself take them off...

Doctors without Borders

In the last few days, even since Stephanie posted about the Doctors without Borders colorway on her blog, you guys have ordered over 30 skeins of yarn in the Doctors without Borders color!! Most of the skeins have been of Verve, which retails at $20. So, since 50% of that $20 gets donated that means that we have raised about $300 in just the last few days!! I am blown away. By the way, I'm busy dyeing up these skeins as I type (well ok, I'm taking a small break but I promise I'll get right back to work once I finish typing), so if you have ordered a skein it should be on its way later this week or at the beginning of next week.
